A Big Project ?!

Projects are something I've been working on for quite a while. Most of them are things I enjoy, or they help level up my skills, or they're practical for real life. For instance, I created Pomodoria, a Pomodoro app that features cool background music and task management. I also developed Astrum, my multipurpose Discord bot with cool anime features like notifications and much more. There are many other projects, some of which I haven't updated in a while or lost track of, but they were useful in their own times.

This time, it's different. I love playing games and coding, and one of my favorite games is Minecraft. I was introduced to Minecraft in school, specifically in class 8, during a workshop conducted by Microsoft for their Education Edition of Minecraft ( Yes they have this and is used in school regularly, of course outside India ). This version is quite different from the original one, focusing more on chemistry and educational content, but it gave me a general idea about the game.

Due the unique concept I liked the game and started playing Minecraft regularly, and then the lockdown came, which significantly boosted the Minecraft YouTube Community. The project I'm working on now isn't exactly coding something for the game — because I don't know Java yet, though I'm learning it, so something related might come up in the future. Instead, it's about developing a server to play with my friends. Not just a normal SMP (Survival Multiplayer), but a server for RP (Role Playing). This project taught me a lot about community-building and introduced me to new friends. I don't have enough words to express how much it means to me. But the journey wasn't that easy ....

What's The Story ?!

This was my first time developing a proper server, so I didn’t have much idea what I was getting into. Luckily, my fellow developers had some experience, but this project quickly grew much larger than we initially anticipated, and we faced a lot of problems along the way.

The first major issue we encountered was not having a proper server to host on. Even though we were ready to spend some money, we miscalculated our budget and the resources we’d need. One of our developers, who also owned the server, found a really cheap hosting provider. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a huge mistake. They were scammers who didn’t provide the resources they advertised. Their control panel showed that we were getting the promised resources, but we received far less.

At first we brought the server with 10 GB ram which was quite good, but the processor was really poor so poor that even Aternos gave better performance, then we thought we should change the processor to Ryzen 9, well it was just the name performance wasn't up to the mark. But this wasn't all the network was so poor that people living in Mumbai ( Where the server was located ) could not join.

We only found out about their scamming ways later from another client, who explained and shoed more than enough proof that they were really big scammers. However, we decided to shift hosting providers not just because of the scam but also due to their poor service and unreliable internet connection of their servers before we knew that they were scammers. After enduring these issues for over two months, we finally moved to a better hosting provider. This new provider has been a game-changer with its fast support and reasonable pricing, making it vastly superior to the last one.

This wasn’t the only problem we faced. We also encountered difficulties with certain plugins that weren’t available for free. Since we started with a minimal investment, we couldn’t afford to pay for these plugins initially. We did our best with alternatives and even resorted to using cracked versions of some plugins ( From the black market, just kidding ). These cracked versions helped us get by.

Once these issues were settled, our next challenge was promotion. We tried calling everyone we knew and only managed to get four people to play regularly, besides us developers. But then, out of nowhere, someone showed up who helped us tremendously and played a major role in why we are here today.

The Rise

The person who came to help us was none other than Qupix. He is a professional content creator, streamer, and well-known e - sports player, and he also happened to be a friend of our server owner. Qupix' s involvement was a turning point for us. He helped us by investing in the server and streaming Minecraft gameplay on our server, which attracted a significant number of players. His influence and audience brought a lot of attention to our project, and we saw our player base grow rapidly.

Qupix didn't stop there. He also allowed us to use his Discord Community as our headquarters for developing the Minecraft server. This was incredibly valuable because it gave us a platform to communicate, organize, and manage the server efficiently. His community provided the support and infrastructure we needed to handle the increasing number of players and the growing complexity of our server.

With Qupix' s help, we were able to tackle several challenges that we previously struggled with. His investment allowed us to purchase the necessary plugins and resources to enhance the server's functionality and gameplay experience. His streams acted as a form of live promotion, showcasing our server to a wide audience and bringing in new players who were excited to join the community.

We implemented several unique features that set our server apart from others. Custom items and enchantments were introduced, adding a new layer of excitement to the gameplay. We also created various quests and dungeons that players could explore, offering rewards and a sense of adventure. These elements, combined with the medieval theme and role-playing aspects, made our server a compelling place for Minecraft enthusiasts.

The growth of our server was not just about the numbers but also about the community we built. Players started forming their own stories, engaging in role-playing, and participating in server events. The sense of friendship and shared purpose made the server more than just a game — it became a thriving community where people could escape, have fun, and be creative.

How Is It Different From Others ?

Let me start with the major difference, it's a role-play and in a role-play server, you write a story for your character and play according to that story, following the server's rules and guide. For instance, we opted for a medieval theme and made rules accordingly. If you kill another player, you become an outlaw, and a bounty is placed on your head. When someone kills you, they get the bounty money. We have a lot of quests and amazing dungeons that you can access only after building a decent house ( yes, a decent one... the last time, well, never mind ). Our server is a bit different from general role-play servers because it’s open which means you don't need to strictly follow the role - play, making it really fun and quite unique to play in.

We have various roles to enhance the experience. Everyone starts as a Citizen, focusing on building houses and farming. As you progress, you can become a Merchant, setting up shops and selling items. Dukes hold significant power, assigning merchant roles and resolving issues, while Kings oversee major matters and maintain order, with elections held monthly. The ultimate authority is the Emperor, known as the King of Kings. Breaking rules can turn you into an Outlaw, allowing you to steal and disregard server rules, but at the cost of having bounties placed on your head.

Our server features custom items and enchantments, adding unique elements to the gameplay. We’re constantly working on new updates and features to keep things exciting. Future plans include even more quests, custom dungeons, and special events to engage the community.

Updates and Activities

First, I want to apologize for being absent for a while. This project, plus rewriting my bot Astrum to make it even better ( not completed ), has kept me busy. I had to study for another exam for my IITM degree as well. The most fun part has been integrating our Minecraft server with Discord using various plugins and a Discord bot that I built. This was the most amazing thing I did, and I loved it the most.

The server now has whitelist forms using Discord modals, which streamline the process for new players to join. We even have a stock market that uses real-life APIs to get actual stock prices, but it uses Minecraft currency. This was something that took me a lot of time, but it is almost ready. It’s available to use but is still in beta. It will be officially launched soon for the server, so feel free to join and check it out!

This project has been both immensely fun and a significant learning experience, uniting us as a community and providing countless memorable moments. As we continue to grow and improve, we’re excited about introducing more quests, custom dungeons, and special events, confident that with the ongoing support of our community and collaboration with talented individuals like Qupix, our server will thrive and offer a unique and enjoyable experience for all players.
